By our definition, the characteristics of an open source system are:
- all members of the system have access to the inner workings, goods and knowledge of the system and the right to make any changes that they need to
- the system continuously modifies itself to relate to the environment and is able to effect its environment to modify to relate to it
- ability of the system to take change by different types of members of the system over time
Mechanisms by which the open source model of development are to be implemented:
- Studios not allocated; admin / users to decide
- Shared facilities such as lecture halls not allocated to departments; organised by numbers and capacity
- Hostel rooms not allocated; maximum range of living situations available; users / admin to choose / allocate
- Building footprint indicated, built form generators provided; but building form to be decided by next level of practitioners to intervene on site
- 2 meter mediating façade – façade aesthetic to be determined by user expression
- Workshops and spaces around them can be appropriated for practical teaching modules; look and feel of these areas changes through student action
Spirit of open source running through our scheme:
- Nature editing the canyon
- Flora, fauna, citizens and villagers welcomed into site
- Range of movement choices
- High level of access to goods and knowledge of SPA for those who are interested
